Social Workers and Wider Social Care Branded 'Key Workers' in Response to COVID-19

Updated: Mar 26

The Department of Education has announced that Social Workers and workers in wider Social Care are to be considered as 'Key Workers' in the response to the Covid-19 outbreak.

This means that children who have one parent that fall into the category of 'critical worker' will be eligible to attend school or college to allow their parents to work.

This announcement also includes other parts of the Health and Social Care workforce, including, but is not limited to doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics, social workers, care workers, and other front-line health and social care staff including volunteers; the support and specialist staff required to maintain the UK’s health and social care sector; those working as part of the health and social care supply chain, including producers and distributors of medicines and medical and personal protective equipment.
